PRODUCTION DIARY: WEEK 12
During this week I
have focused on the context of my production, looking closely at the stories I will
cover. I need to do more research for the interview of my artist and how I
should construct the interview. I also keep looking at my mood board for the
inspiration for my double page spread.

PRODUCTION DIARY: WEEK 11
During this week I completed my drafts of my front cover
and contents page for my magazine. I followed the flatplans made to give me an
idea of how to lay out my production to fit with my target demographic. I have
continued to make changes with the font and colour scheme to make sure it looks
appealing.

MOODBOARD

I looked at different magazine, mainly VIBE and Billboard, looking at different genres, comparing the front cover and contents pages. I did this because it gives me an idea of how to lay out my own front cover and contents page, and shows me what appeals to my own target demographic. I looked closely at VIBE magazine and have used that as my main inspiration for my own, this is because of how the layout suits the genre and target audience. I like how the front covers focus mainly on the masthead and main image, this is a convention I will be using on my own front cover.

PRODUCTION DIARY: WEEK 10
This week I have created a colour scheme and a flatplan for my magazine cover. With these first steps I am pleased with the outcome and can see what needs to be improved. We had a specialists come in during the week to teach us how to use Photoshop, this was helpful as I can now use it to create my magazine cover. We also looked over our mock exam which was helpful to see what needs improving and I took a picture and uploaded it. We also looked at mise-en-scene of different music magazines.

PRODUCTION DIARY: WEEK 9
This
week I created a flat plan in my mock for my music magazine with a rough idea
on how it will be laid out, I evaluated it and wrote a pitch for the final
production, I then began to look at the fonts and colour scheme I will use in
my magazine. I also sorted out my work and putting all my work in my folder.

MISE-EN-SCENE: PARLOUR
One important
feature of the mise-en-scene is the taxidermied animals, seen when Marian and
Norman enter the Parlour. The darkness and the dull weather connotates the
coldness and gloom of the Bates Motel. Furthermore, the taxidermy is a
reflection on Normans personality. It's an unusual hobby to take up, and to do
so with such animals takes skill and time showing that he has them both. This
also suggests Norman to be a dark and dangerous man and is capable of more more
dangerous activities, as he lures Marian into the Parlour, this suggests along
with the gloomy weather that she will be in trouble.

PRODUCTION DIARY: WEEK 8
This
week I have looked at magazine analysis looking at conventions, connotations
and genres in order to be able to analyse my own magazine. This has been useful
as it has made looking at images and texts easier so when it comes to choosing
my own it makes the decision clearer and helping to decipher hidden meanings. I
have also managed to take a couple pictures for my magazine.

FLATPLAN FOR FINAL MAGAZINE PRODUCTION
These are the first drafts of my Flatplan for my front cover and contents page. Although pleased with the outcome further development need to be made in order to produce a good magazine.
MISE-EN-SCENE IN MUSIC MAGAZINES

The lighting is balanced and does not make the writing or images used difficult to see. The font used is big and bold which makes it eye-catching for the audience to read. The clear texts make it easier for the readers to understand the whole theme of the magazine and what its about.
The mode of address for this image is direct and at a mid shot. This is effective as it instantly draws you in and grabs your attention and suits the cover. Also the styling of the magazine cover makes it clear who the selected target demographic is and instantly attracts them to read.
The anchorage "I'm bigger, better" fixes and relates to the meaning of the picture. Where in the image the model is bold and quite confident similarly to the caption. The enigma "want to be the next one claiming the crown?" is a question that is not immediately answered which creates interest for the audience.

The lighting used is quite dark as you can see shadows across the models face. Doing this is effective as it fits in with the whole idea of 'rap' as that is what the genre of the magazine is. He looks quite angry which reflects the whole image of the rap scene as it is usually seen as angry young men.
The setting of the cover has been added in, its of graffiti which again fits in with the whole rap genre. However the background looks quite over powering as you are more drawn into the background instead of the text on the cover
The anchorage "who would be the best" again like the cover above relates to the image as it uses non verbal communication as he is pointing at the audience as almost to ask them a question without using speech, the enigma also makes the readers more intrigued to find out more.
COLOUR SCHEME FOR MUSIC MAGAZINE
I have used the same colour cheme chart as I did in my preliminary task. This is because I am going to continue using the same colours but just develop it further, using primarily white for the colour of the text.

PREZI
This is a prezi which shows a quick overview in how my school publication magazine was created and then how I will hopefully create my music magazine.

PRODUCTION DIARY: WEEK 7
This
week I looked closely at the results from my research and narrowed down what my
selected target demographic will be most interested in. From my results I found
that the genres I have chosen to focus on are appropriate for my audience and
their preferences. I will hopefully capture my images by the end of the week in
order to continue the development of my magazine.

PRODUCTION DIARY: WEEK 6
During
this week the class spent time looking and studying different types of
magazines, analysing the front covers, content pages and its content and
comparing them to lots of other magazines. We also
looked at theories in the media and the Marxists perspective on Print Media.

SURVEYMONKEY
I used ‘Survey Monkey’ to conduct
my research in order to get specific results; my questionnaire informs me on
what needs to be added into my magazine. I found that there were 2/3 of females
who completed the questionnaire compared to males, which was 1/3.
As a result of the clear
demographic I have decided to make my magazine appeal to more females but not
completely disregard males. I found that the main target audience is aimed at
ages 17 to 21, which means that I am able to focus more on their likes. I found
that the main genre of magazines read is Fashion & Beauty (9/15), Music
(9/15), and sports which was (5/15). Subsequently this makes the content of the
magazine I will add in narrow down. I will focus on the age groups between 17
and 21 and include Sports, Fashion & Beauty, and Music, as it will appeal
to a both male and female audience.

MEDIA STUDIES
The three areas that the media are specifically interested in.
- Media Organisations
- Meaning and Representation in Media Text
- Ethical Issues
TOOL KIT
Our task was to create a step by step guide on differemt ways to present our work. I used Photovisi and showed a step by step guide on how to use the programme, and if it worth using for our project. I found that it wasnt as useful as thought but is a nice idea.

PRODUCTION DIARY: WEEK 5
This week I collected and looked at the
results from my questionnaire I created for my music magazine. I have come to a
final decision for my demographic and content of the magazine. I found using
‘SurveyMonkey’ slightly difficult because in order to collect all results I
needed to upgrade the software, so I have to right it out by hand then put it
onto Edexcel.

PRODUCTION DIARY: WEEK 4
In our Media class we have begun to look at our main task which is the production of our music magazine. From the research we have taken we’ve had to narrow down our selected target audience and what the readers will be interested in reading. I found out this information from using ‘Survey Monkey’ an online questionnaire service. This software is useful as you can create a variety of questions with a variety of answers, it’s also easy for people to answer questions and easy for me to retrieve data. I’ve also created a Prezi which shows the steps I took in order to create my final production.

PRODUCTION DIARY: WEEK 3
In this week we finished off our preliminary task to create our
school publication. Since last time I have finally finished my magazine’s front
cover and the contents page. I titled my magazine ‘Harris Cut’ which I am pleasantly
pleased with. I will soon begin to plan my two page spread for my school
magazine.

FINAL FLAT PLAN
This is my final school publication design. I have used
appropriate colour schemes to fit in with my chosen theme and inserted images
to make it look presentable. I have chosen to go along with the colours black,
white, grey and blue as they look aesthetically appealing to the eyes. Combined
with the font and texture I believe this piece looks polished and well put
together making it suitable for the appropriate target audience.

FONT SEQUENCES
I created a font chart to show the different type of font styles I could use. Doing so helped me to come up with the decision of my colour scheme and fonts I chose to use ‘Calibri’ size 80, black and bold, it is simple yet eye catching.
PRODUCTION DIARY: WEEK 2
This week I was finishing up creating the school publication for the preliminary task. I used my previous flatplans and continued to improve my publication for the cover and contents page. I stuck with my original colour schemed as I believe that it’s the most aesthetically appealing to readers eyes. I came up with the final name for the magazine ‘HARRIS CUT’ because it’s quick, short and easy to remember.
I am pretty sure that I have reached my targets demographics because what will be included is aimed primarily at teenagers in school in years 9-10 but can also be read by younger year groups, parents and teachers. I will soon begin to create my two page spread for the magazine and I believe I am confident to do so as I now have a clear demographic audience and colour scheme/theme.

PRODUCTION DIARY: WEEK 1
I began looking at the preliminary task which is to create a publication magazine for a school. So far for my magazine I have drawn a flatplan to see a rough idea for what I want to do, and then I created a second draft adding my selected colours for my theme. I have chosen to go with black, white, grey and blue as these colours are the main colours that my selected schools theme is and that they look appealing together.
I will next have to take picture to add to my magazine cover and contents page. Once that is complete I will be able to write articles. I will then put them together making sure that the text and pictures relate with each other.
